ABOUT RULES FOR FAKE GIRLFRIENDS
Avery Blackwell is a planner. She’s the kind of person who likes rules and structure, and at 18, she knows exactly what she’s doing with her life. After graduation, she’ll attend Columbia, major in pre-med, and become a doctor, and so far, she’s perfectly on track. That is until her mom tragically dies. Aside from their shared love of rom-com, Avery and her mom didn’t have much in common, but that doesn’t make the loss any easier. And neither does the letter her mother left for her, begging her to abandon Columbia and attend her alma mater, Brighton College in England. The letter also contains a postcard-sized photograph with a clue – a clue just like the ones her mom used to leave for her during the elaborate scavenger hunts she created for Avery as a kid.
Before she knows it she is on the train from Heathrow to Brighton College. There she meets Charlie, a girl who appears out of nowhere and pleads for Avery to pretend to be her girlfriend. Avery and Charlie bond quickly, and when Charlie learns of Avery’s scavenger hunt, she happily agrees to help her and Avery offers to continue playing the role of Charlie’s girlfriend.
The clues from Avery’s mom take Avery and Charlie all over Brighton, and as Avery begins to feel closer to a mother she never really understood, she also starts to feel closer to Charlie. But Charlie – like her mom – has secrets of her own and is very clearly hiding something despite their growing relationship.
